MINDS – Shaping Africa's future through its youth

Whilst older men declare war, it is the duty of youth to fight the battle. Nowhere does that adage carry more weight than in the context of Africa. With an average age of 18 vs. 37 in USA and a rapidly emerging young population, Africa’s young will no doubt be responsible for shaping, driving and accelerating its growth.

With a culture that tends to place high emphasis on experience and age, one of the areas in which young people in Africa tend to be significantly under-represented is within the remit of politics and nation shaping. The Mandela Institute for Development Studies (MINDS) seeks to tackle this through its 2015 Annual African Youth Dialogue on Elections and Governance.
To be hosted in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe on 7th and 8th August and open to participants from all over Africa, this event will ‘do what is says on the tin’ – give 100 of Africa’s most impactful young people the opportunity to interact as they interrogate and deepen the understanding of issues of mutual interest pertaining to the development and transformation of the continent. In doing so, the event seeks to foster an increase in the number of young people peacefully and actively participating in African elections and governance processes based on an appreciation of the significance of their demographic superiority.
Again respect has to be shown to MINDS for the boldness of the idea and its potential for impact. Movemeback looks forward to seeing the fruits it harvests.

To all interested parties, applications close on the 29th May 2015.
