The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program (MCFSP) targets academically talented yet economically disadvantaged young people in Africa who will contribute to the transformation of the continent through their knowledge, skills, attitudes and values evidenced by their leadership. Community service and internships are essential components of the Program. The MCFSP offers a full scholarship to selected students who have been provisionally admitted to study towards a postgraduate degree at UP. Graduates must return to their home countries on completion of their studies and give back to their communities.

In partnership with the Mastercard Foundation, the University of Pretoria is offering scholarships for post graduate education for the academic year 2021-22.

Selection and admission are based on: 

  • Academic achievement and fit to ethos of the program
  • Leadership and community development for Africa
  • Desire to give back and go back to one's community

Criteria

Each candidate must:

  • Have been admitted into a degree at University of Pretoria
  • Be sure to include documents to support what their family, guardian or foster parents can afford to pay
  • Provide accurate and true information regarding their application

Benefits

Successful candidates will receive:

  1. Full tuition fees
  2. Accommodation and meals in a UP residence or UP-accredited accommodation
  3. A modest monthly stipend
  4. Textbooks and printed material
  5. Medical aid cover for the duration of the study
  6. VISA costs
  7. Reasonable travel costs (including flight ticket) to and from your home
  8. Leadership development opportunities
  9. Academic advising and counselling support
