How does Movemeback work?

Movemeback is a members-only network. To unlock access to our unique African opportunities and support services - you must first apply to join. Membership is free, but we will screen your application against the dimensions of professional, leadership and/or academic excellence prior to approval. Just apply to join Movemeback in minutes using our application page. Once accepted, you will have access to a range of Movemeback opportunities and services. What kind of opportunities are available via Movemeback?

Movemeback focuses on distinctive and non-cliché opportunities, from senior leadership roles with Africa's most influential organisations through to unique investments, creative and entrepreneurial partnerships, nation shaping, social impact and more. At our core, we are structured to enable access to five categories of opportunities:

  1. Talent relocation: Opportunities for members to relocate to jobs, projects or ventures in Africa;
  2. Internships & Secondments: Opportunities for members (typically students/graduates) to relocate to / engage temporarily in jobs, projects or ventures in Africa;
  3. Investment and advisory: Arrangements where members are engaged as investors or advisors for ventures, startups, projects, private equity and more;
  4. Remote working opportunities: Opportunities for members to function as employees, consultants, partners and more from their existing (remote) locations;
  5. Other partnerships: various other opportunities allowing members (or organisations represented by members) to create specific partnerships with other members, organisations or other third parties affiliated with Movemeback.

Do I have to come from a particular country?

No! Although we do expect that you maintain a level of background or active interest in Africa and African opportunities; you may also have a demonstrable affinity, tie or experience with/in an African country.

I am a student or graduate, can I apply?

Yes! We will review your application against the dimensions of academic, professional or leadership excellence. So if you can demonstrate excellence in any of these areas, we welcome you to apply. We are developing a student and graduate specific internship programme, so that may be of specific relevance and interest for you.

Does Movemeback have a graduate programme?

We are currently developing a graduate specific programme, enabling the best and brightest talent across the African diaspora and beyond to take interesting roles in Africa. If you would like to get involved in any way, please contact us at graduates@movemeback.com for more details.

How long will it take approve my application?

We will typically review your application within 5 working days.

Why was I rejected?

Unfortunately we do not accept all applications to Movemeback. If you have been rejected, then you would not have met our criteria of academic, professional or leadership excellence. If you feel your application has been wrongly declined you can contact us to discuss further.

Can I share my insights on working/doing business in Africa with the community?

Absolutely! We invite members with interesting and inspiring stories of their 'move back' to the continent to share them with the rest of the community. To contribute to our content, please contact us at content@movemeback.com.

How much does the service cost?

The basic Movemeback membership service is free.

How does it work?

Movemeback can provide you with a range of end-to-end service options, designed to help you access top talent and valuable partners from across the diaspora and beyond. Our process varies depending on our client's requirements. However, we will typically work with you as follows:

  1. We have a conversation with you to fully understand your requirements and, where necessary, customise a niche solution based on your request,
  2. We use our knowledge of the community to help you develop your brief to best communicate your opportunity and engage the relevant audience,
  3. We list your opportunity to our members via our website, and deploy highly targeted and catered email campaigns to reach relevant candidates and alert them to your opportunities,
  4. We can shortlist individuals and/or partners from the community and target them directly on your behalf as needed,
  5. We collect and provide you with data and insights to help you understand how members react to your brand and opportunities.

Do you specialise on any type of opportunities or roles?

We work with companies, organisations and causes from across Africa. Below is a comprehensive list of all the countries we consider ourselves as representing; if you don't see a country you'd expect to see - feel free to contact us.

Where are your members from?

Movemeback is a global community. Our candidates are predominantly members of the African diaspora, currently located in UK & USA. We also have members who are not from the African diaspora, but interested or active with African opportunities. Members come from a range of backgrounds which embody at least one of our assessment dimensions of professional excellence, leadership excellence or academic excellence.

I am looking to hire, why should I use Movemeback rather than a headhunting agency?

Movemeback has a global community of high calibre individuals, waiting for the perfect opportunity worth 'moving back' to Africa for. As a result, our model minimises how much 'hunting' is necessary to find the right candidate. So rather than having to wait for us to find you candidates who may or may not be suitable for your role, you will have access to a pool of accomplished individuals, waiting to hear about your opportunity. Movemeback is also a more cost effective option than headhunting agencies. Our rates are considerably less and we collect fees only on success. I am looking to hire, how much contact will I have with candidates?

Our transparent approach means that Movemeback will deliver to you quality candidates, and then fade into the background, allowing you to interact directly with candidates. If this does not suit you there are several alternative options we can discuss.

How do you mitigate against hired candidates and international partners changing their minds at the last minute?

Movemeback is not just a transactional service - it is a community of like-minded individuals. We offer practical moving back support, advice and crowd-sourced insights to members. So whilst we can't control the choices a candidate or international partner makes, we do try to mitigate some of the challenges associated with moving back by providing relevant member support and facilitating the sharing of advice and ideas to make the 'move back' that little bit easier.

Can I raise money for my business via Movemeback?

Members of the Movemeback community are interested in investing in African companies, or in private equity and turnaround deals.
