The annual observance of the International Day of Disabled Persons was proclaimed in 1992, by the United Nations General Assembly resolution 47/3. The observance of the Day aims to promote an understanding of disability issues and mobilize support for the dignity, rights and well-being of persons with disabilities. It also seeks to increase awareness of gains to be derived from the integration of persons with disabilities in every aspect of political, social, economic and cultural life.
International Day for Persons with Disability (IDPD) taking place on the 3rd of December 2021. This event will be held online via Zoom Technologies at 4pm West Africa Time and 9am Central Standard Time respectively. This is a Global Platform for disability stakeholders to celebrate the 2021 International Day of Persons with Disabilities and be empowered to collaborate and support each other in this unprecedented time by impacting people with disabilities in many ways. This Town Hall Meeting will involve CSOs, Public, Private and Government/policy-level stakeholders to have mutual dialogue where strategies around supporting persons with disabilities is developed and later implemented. This event aims to bring members of the disability community together on the 3rd of December to celebrate IDPD and collaborate to encourage and support each other.
Special Needs Initiative For Growth is a civil society organization; an NGO presiding in Lagos State, Nigeria that provides empowerment tools, resources and programs for children, early adults, young adults and aged persons with disabilities such as Down Syndrome, cerebral palsy, visually impairment and autism spectrum disorders.
We leverage on assistive technology, rehabilitative technologies, advocacy, mentorship, capacity building, health support services, career development and entrepreneurship to promote and sustain the social and economic wellbeing and rights of persons with disabilities in Nigeria and other parts of Africa. Our mission is providing total empowerment tools and resources that promote education, entrepreneurship, health approaches and career development channels for the special needs community in Nigeria and other parts of Africa.
