The SOAS African Development Forum is a student driven platform organised through the SOAS Centre for African Studies, which houses the largest expertise on Africa outside of Africa. Through an annual conference and an engaging blog, ADF champions African development, brings together leading thinkers in the field to stimulate informed discussion, challenges orthodox narratives, and bridges gaps in understanding between various development
Notable former keynotes of the SOAS African Development Forum include BBC Correspondent, Tomi Oladipo, president of the Kwame Nkrumah Pan African Centre, Samia Yabah Nkrumah, African Union Youth Envoy member, Aya Chebbi, and many more.
This year’s theme: ‘In.Security’, provides a platform to explore traditional notions of security in various aspects of African development and opportunities for the future. Through 4 expert panels, engaging keynotes and various opportunities to network, the 2-day conference will elevate conversations that aim to realise solutions to basic aspects of African society that appear to be under threat. The weekend provides an opportunity to engage, spotlight, and contribute to the current conversations and movements propelling Africa forward.
Attendees will hear from four expert panels that building on the ideas and expectations of those on the continent, and the contributions of the diaspora. Several renowned keynotes will also offer their insights into this year’s theme, including Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, H.E. Amina J. Mohammed, former prime minister of Niger and CEO of New Partnership for Africa’s Development, Ibrahim Mayaki, Deputy Executive Director of the UN World Food Programme, Amir Abdulla, among others.
The conference will be held on the 15th and 16th of March at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) campus. As a comprehensive 2-day experience, attendees will have the opportunity to network, enjoy delectable food from a West-African caterer, and go home with resources from several prominent sponsors.
