In addition, Yalelo have launched several local community programmes supporting health and social development initiatives, which drive the well-being and empowerment of the local community. Yalelo launched their Uganda operations in 2019, and are seeking an experienced operations manager to lead their Distibution & Processing team in Uganda.

 

As the new Warehouse and Distribution Manager, you will be accountable for overseeing stock control, warehouse planning and logistics, distribution planning and operations and transport fleet management. You will report to the Processing & Distribution Director and manage a team of direct reports including the Warehouse Team, Distribution Planning Team, Dispatch Team and Transport Team.

 

 

Role Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for management, planning, storage, dispatch and receipt of all goods in and out of the warehouse
  • Achieves warehouse operations operational objectives by contributing warehouse operations information and recommendations to strategic plans and reviews; preparing and completing action plans; implementing production, productivity, quality, and customer- service standards; resolving problems; completing audits; identifying trends
  • Reviews invoices, work orders, consumption reports, and demand forecasts in order to estimate peak delivery periods and to issue work assignments
  • Develops warehouse operations systems by determining product handling and storage requirements; developing, implementing, enforcing, and evaluating policies and procedures; developing processes for receiving product, equipment utilisation, inventory management, and shipping
  • Develops warehouse design by planning layout, product flow, and product handling systems; evaluating and recommending new equipment
  • Develops warehouse operations system improvements by analysing process work-flow, manning and space requirements, and equipment layout; implementing changes
  • Designs, implements and maintains efficiencies and fit-for-purpose controls whilst ensuring core Warehouse policies, processes, systems and support services are relevant to business needs
  • Confers with department heads to coordinate warehouse activities, such as production, sales, records control, and purchasing
  • Issues shipping instructions and provides routing information to ensure that delivery times and locations are coordinated.
  • Meets competing and non-negotiable deadlines and providing quality administrative support in a complex and dynamic operating environment
  • Develops and documents standard and emergency operating procedures for receiving, handling, storing, shipping, or salvaging products or materials
  • Meets warehouse operations financial objectives by forecasting requirements; preparing an annual budget; scheduling expenditures; analysing variances; initiating corrective actions
  • Ensures completion of all necessary documentation, checking and adjusting of all inventory data collection continuously
  • Analyses data to assess performance, discover logistical problems and devise plans for improvements
  • Identify hazards and maintain a safe working environment. Demonstrates strong awareness of Health & Safety best practices through all areas. Compliance with H&S practices and procedures. Demonstrate the safe and correct method of handling various types of materials
  • Completes timely and accurate reporting (at intervals specified by management). Report on Reconciliation of actual counts to computer generated reports
  • Follows up with Material Discrepancy Reports and Settles MDRs
  • Leads the monthly inventory taking and compiles reports on the same
  • Accomplishes warehouse operations human resource objectives by participating in recruiting, selecting, orienting, training, assigning, scheduling, coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, appraising, and reviewing job contribution and enforcing policies and procedures
  • Conducts risk assessments of processes and tasks across the department.
  • Develops and maintains strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure optimal performance
  • Provides technical expertise to the team
  • Leads the regular production of Warehouse and Distribution reports and generation of management insights
  • Works as part of the Management team to share ideas and improve operations, recommending, supporting and implementing continuous improvement activities and process and procedure improvements to optimise results and improve quality of delivery, in line with Company and Customer requirements
     

Criteria

  • Bachelor’s degree in Logistics and Supply Chain Management, Operations Management, Business Administration
  • Masters in Business Administration a bonus
  • At least 10 years of experience working in logistics, warehouse, or transportation operations, which must include five years’ supervisory experience
  • Firm grasp of supply chain, inventory, distribution, business, and management principles
  • Proven work experience in corporate/multinational working environment
  • Action and detail oriented, having a drive for success
  • Analytical and problem solving skills
  • Strong management and leadership skills together with excellent communication, influencing, negotiating and presentation skills
  • The ability to network and interact effectively with a broad range of associates spanning varied disciplines and responsibilities
  • Service-focussed approach, vested in product and process excellence and customer satisfaction
  • Resilience and the ability to work independently and effectively under pressure
  • Flexible and adaptable with the ability to work within a changing environment and respond to different demands with a sense of urgency
