As a Country Manager at Viamo, you will be the in-country representative and a passionate leader within the Digital for Development movement.  Reporting to the Regional or Deputy Regional Director for Eastern and Southern Africa, your role will be to drive impact, working with partners to develop and launch innovative and effective digital engagement campaigns via mobile. You will ensure that every large development organisation knows about Viamo’s solutions and you will supervise the delivery of Viamo’s work across their projects. In Zambia, the team already have significant contracts in place with international development organisations, and more are in the pipeline.

 

What does success look like:

  • Impact: Viamo measure unique individuals who meaningfully engage with their services and track the behaviour and frequency of these interactions
  • New business development: Viamo measure their success in a market by the number and financial value of new business opportunities generated and contracts signed
  • Revenue: Viamo measure the value of contracts implemented in each market and track the timely and quality implementation of these projects

Role Responsibilities:

  • Take the lead in creating impact and ensure that all Viamo staff are passionate and committed to creating impact through mobile
  • Take the lead on identification of new business opportunities in-country, track and respond to RFPs, and design high quality budgets.
  • Work with partners to design and launch effective mobile engagement projects; this includes building relationships, co-designing projects, preparing budgets and responding to RFPs.
  • Delight partners with quality, timely execution of program deliverables.
  • Manage the 3-2-1 Service, expanding content available, developing commercial partnerships to diversify revenue.
  • Manage relationships with Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) to ensure the infrastructure is in place to connect with all mobile phones in-country.
  • Represent the organisation to national government agencies and ensure organisational compliance with national regulatory bodies
  • Manage the national Viamo teams

Key Performance Indicators:

  •  Impact: number of unique listeners and engagements
  •  Bookings: Value of secured partnerships
  •  Revenue: Execution & invoicing of program deliverables

Criteria

  • 5+ years experience, in any combination of social enterprise in international development, INGO, MNO, ICT4D/Digital for Development, digital strategy consulting, donor or international organisation or international implementer
  • Fundraising experience in an international development setting
  • Proven business development skills - proposal writing and partnership building - with a history of submitting winning applications
  • Project management experience, including reporting and budgeting. (Experience implementing USG and UKAid funded projects desirable)
  • Excellent problem solving and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated self-management/entrepreneurial skills; adaptability and resourcefulness.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English / French - Please note that professional fluency in French is required for Francophone countries. Local languages are a plus but not required
  • Experience living and working in East Africa as well as internationally (desirable)
  • Knowledge of business compliance and regulations in the countries of operation (desirable)
