Taptap Send - Growth Manager, Launcher Movemeback African opportunity cover image

Taptap Send is an app that lets people send money back home to Africa and Asia instantly and at very low prices. Launched in 2019, it is a venture-backed start-up with investors including Reid Hoffman, the Omidyar Network, and Helios. Taptap is tapping into a transformative shift in global finance: from banks to phones. While this has affected wealthier countries as well, it has been nothing short of a revolution for the emerging markets where the overwhelming majority of population had been unable to access digital finance previously.  Its first product, Taptap Send, allows immigrants to send money home instantly and with no fee, saving money in the process. With a formal market size of >700B alone, Taptap say 'we've got a lot more saving to do for our users. And that’s just the beginning….'

The Role

Your role will be to lead the launch of Taptap Send in the remittance market from the US to Ghana. You’ll quickly understand the customer and community, build an initial strategy, execute on growth tactics, track and report on their success, and iterate over time to ensure that we hit our growth targets. The role offers the chance to join an early-stage, high growth startup and to have a positive impact on the communities we serve. Plus, you’ll be part of a fun, collaborative team that is highly oriented towards professional growth.

Please note that the ideal location for this opportunity is the United States as the role will require existing networks within the US and Ghanaian diaspora. Candidates with a preference to be based in Ghana will be considered if they can demonstrate previous experience gained within the US or existing networks within the US.  Candidates who wish to be based in the US must have existing rights to live and work within the US. Unfortuantely, Taptap Send are unable to support with sponsorship at the present time.

The Team

  • Founded by Harvard grads / 3rd-time founders - also founded Segovia (successful exit) and GiveDirectly (>300M revenue, fastest-growing NGO)
  • Top performers from top and varied organizations (e.g. Bain, Bolt, Google, McKinsey, SafeBoda, Uber, Zipline) - we like moving fast, and we hire people that do as well
  • Driven by mission, guided by values (see below) – in deed, not just word
  • Team as global as the mission, >30 languages from 25 countries (i.e., if you’re interested in learning to make Chicken Moambe, we’re the place)

Role Responsibilities:

You will lead growth efforts, including:

  • Building trust-based relationships with diaspora communities through in-person and online communication
  • Conducting customer research with transfer senders on a regular basis
  • Initiating, negotiating and building partnerships with community associations and organizations
  • Setting up offline and online advertising campaigns
  • Sourcing and leading community ambassadors

  • 2-5+ years in a high-growth environment such as marketing, consulting, political campaigns, startups / entrepreneurship, and much more
  • Based in the United States
  • Exceptional knowledge and networks in the diaspora or ability to quickly build them
  • Fluent in English, with fluency in Twi and other diaspora languages a plus
  • Business development/sales/marketing background is a strong plus
  • This opportunity will require remote working, although you will need to be based in the US as frequent travel within the US will be required. Ideally, you would be based in New York, however, there is some flexibility around this. The team is also open to considering candidates who are not currently US-based but are willing/able to relocate.

Also, you are:

  • Outgoing – you love speaking to people and enjoy building meaningful relationships with customers and community members across cultures
  • Execution oriented – we are an early-stage startup with an “impact-first” philosophy and a lot to be done. You should be able to take an idea to implementation
  • Mission-oriented - you are passionate about working with immigrant communities and/or financial inclusion
  • Driven - you thrive in fast-paced, target-oriented, dynamic environments
  • Strategic - you make reasoned decisions based on available data and communicate your ideas in a structured way
  • Flexible - you are comfortable setting your working hours to accomplish your goals, including work commitments on nights and weekends (e.g. events or customer meetings)
  • Organized - you have a system for how you approach your work that can keep you on track in a scrappy startup environment

  • Competitive pay (based on experience)
  • Flexible hours
  • Regular team events with the team
  • Work from home/remote-friendly

About Taptap Send

Taptap Send is an app that lets people send money back home to Africa and Asia instantly and at very low prices. Since launching in summer 2018, we’ve already moved tens of millions of dollars and reached tens of thousands of customers. We’re live in the UK, EU, US and Canada, and we support payments into Senegal, Mali, Guinea, Ghana, Cameroon, the Ivory Coast, Kenya, Madagascar, Zambia, Bangladesh,  Vietnam,  DR Congo,  Morocco, Sri Lanka,  Rep. Congo, Pakistan, Nepal, Ethiopia, and Nigeria with more countries launching soon.

Global remittances account for over $500 billion annually, most of which moves back into developing countries. But the market is dominated by traditional services that are expensive, can take days to arrive, and have limited reach in rural areas. We're helping people to send that money instantly and securely at a fraction of the cost. In doing so, we are working on making the UN Sustainable Development Goal of bringing cross-border remittance costs down by 2030 a reality today.
