OZÉ is looking for a Director of Engineering to lead their technology and product team. Your mission will be to exceed customers’ expectations by swiftly delivering an application that is intuitive, bug-free, and robust, whilst developing the capabilities of OZÉ’s tech team to help you to deliver on that promise. If this all seems refreshing and exciting to you, this could be your ideal opportunity! 

The location of this role is ideally in Nigeria / Ghana, but remote working is a possibility

Role Responsibilities:

1. Lead technical development and strategic direction of OZÉ SME & Enterprise Apps 

• Work with the Tech Lead to set the technical strategy and vision for the company
• Take a leading role in product road map development
• Implement major product functions (i.e. payments, inventory management) within 1 sprint of the planned delivery 95% of the time
• Present trade-offs between performance and functionality
• Support management in tracking and analyzing of key product and technology performance indicators and monitoring trends in key business KPIs

2. Build OZÉ’s technology infrastructure to optimize functionality and efficiency 

• Support management in improving the development methodology 
• Build out relevant software stack 
• Actively monitor and optimize spend on server and other costs
• Keep the team up-to-date on information pertaining to technology standards and compliance regulations
• Discover and implement new technologies that yield competitive advantages

3. Ensure the stability and security of OZÉ applications and systems and the safety and integrity of user data

• Build quality assurance and data protection processes
• Implement best practices in app and data security
• Prevent catastrophic breaches of our system 

4. Nurture relationships within the tech team and with internal and external stakeholders

• Nurture the talents of all developers to make sure that they are able to bring their full self to the work
• Advocate for tech during sprint planning sessions
• Lead sprint retrospectives after all sprints
• Build bridges between tech, our customers, and the rest of the company
• Provide budgets for technical requirements
• Communicate technical requirements and restraints in plain language to all stakeholders 
• Help promote culture of continuous learning throughout the team
• Serve as the public face for the company’s technical vision, promoting OZÉ among relevant stakeholders and helping OZÉ to be a key player in West Africa’s tech ecosystem

• Knowledge of DevOps procedures, processes, practices and an ability to help build the necessary infrastructure
• Understanding and experience using/developing Restful APIs
• Understanding of cloud technologies such as GCP/AWS
• Ability to work closely with other engineers, product managers and customer support
• Ability to work in a dynamic and agile environment with tight deadlines
• Positive, ‘can do’ attitude with a focus on the success of the team over individual successes
• Bonus if you have experience with microservices

OZÉ is a platform that equips small business owners in Africa to make data-driven decisions to improve their performance, tap into networks, and access capital. The platform comprised of a mobile app for a small business owners that aggregates and analyzes transaction data to push context-specific recommendations and reports and a portal for financial institutions that combines the app’s crowdsourced data with alternative data sources to assign a credit risk score to each OZÉ user.
