One Acre Fund is an agricultural development company working in several countries across East Africa that is innovating a new way of helping farm families to achieve their full potential. Instead of giving handouts, One Acre invests in farmers to generate a permanent gain in farm income. We provide farmers with a "market bundle" that includes education, finance, seed and fertilizer, and market access. Our program is proven impactful – every year, we weigh thousands of harvests and measure more than 100% average gain in farm income per acre. We have laser-like focus on generating better lives for the people that we serve.

 

We are growing quickly. In ten years, we have grown to serve 400,000+ farm families with more than 3,000 fulltime staff in Kenya alone. In three more years, we will at least quadruple in size, while adding several new country programs. Our approach has won widespread validation, winning grants from the highly competitive Echoing Green and Skoll Foundations, and the global Financial Times/ IFC award for "basic needs financing" in 2010 and 2011.

 

The Field Operations Department is the largest team in One Acre Fund. We focus on the short-term gains of our program and the management of our 2,700-person Field Team in order to drive business outcomes. We work closely with annual strategists across departments to ensure the program operates efficiently and in-sync across 50+ districts and 4 major operational regions of the country. It is the Field Operations department’s responsibility to ensure that we deliver a seamless, farmer-focused service to each of our customers while also designing the right forward-thinking plans to serve future farmers for years to come.

 

Role Details
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Direct management of 2-3 sub-teams with up to 35 team members and develop a high-performing team through mentorship and professional development support
  • Ownership of strategic direction for 2-3 portfolios (examples: Tablet integration, Customer Protection, Field deliveries, Insurance, Warranty, Field offices) using routine alignment seeking across departments and with country leadership
  • Lead project design and implementation to drive business outcomes - set objectives and key performance indicators, regularly report on progress, manage crisis response, hold the team accountable to prioritizing and delivering results in key strategic areas
  • Participate in global Field Operations work and collaborate with other country programs

Criteria

  • We are seeking exceptional professionals with 3+ years of work experience, and a demonstrated long-term passion for development work
  • Strong project management experience with demonstrated success in planning, managing and executing complex projects on a tight schedule
  • Able to come up with innovative and creative solutions to challenges - an entrepreneurial mindset is a strong asset
  • Able to work with quantitative and qualitative information, exercise judgment, make decisions in the context of uncertainty, and use data effectively to drive strategy
  • Demonstrated ability to drive toward results and outcomes, staying persistent with a problem over a sustained period of time
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize, and adapt to changing priorities/circumstances
  • Experience in managing individuals and teams preferred and able to collaborate with colleagues from diverse backgrounds using emotional intelligence
  • Demonstrated leadership experience at work or outside of work, enthusiasm for learning, and openness to a feedback culture
  • Strong communication skills and adaptability, both written and oral
  • A willingness to commit to living in rural areas of East Africa for at least two years - this is a long-term, career-track role
  • At a minimum, a Bachelor’s degree is required for this position
  • Language: English required, knowledge of Swahili preferred
