Nala - Head of Finance and Treasury Movemeback African opportunity cover image

Description

NALA are on a mission to build a bank Africans love to use! We are always keen to hear from capable, ambitious, and creative people who want to help us accomplish that goal. Our first product was a mobile money service in East Africa, which gained over 250,000 customers. Now we’ve set our sights on making an impact on a global scale! We’re currently launching an international money transfer service for Africans living overseas, who send money home to their loved ones. We’re supported by a number of the most prestigious startup investors and accelerators in the world, including Y Combinator, Accel Partners (their first African Investment!), DST Global, DFS Lab, NYCA Partners, and several incredible fintech angel investors.

What we are currently building:

We want to build a bank for the African diaspora globally, initially by starting with remittances of diaspora sending money home. We believe this is critical to solve to channel economic value back to the African continent.  We believe using remittances is one of the best forms of true economic development and we would like to use it as an entry point before building new layers of financial services for the African diaspora.

At a starting point we are excited about:

  • Building Remittances 2.0 - we know remittance fees are a race to the bottom and believe the current model has some things that need to be changed
  • Enabling credit - for senders sending money back to Africa so they don’t have to wait till they get their paycheck at the end of the month
  • Enabling direct bill pay - so the diaspora can pay for bills (TV, Electricity etc..) directly for their family every month.
  • Building a community of African diaspora helping us build an incredible product together

The Head of Finance & Treasury opportunity:

  • There are giants who play in the general remittances to Africa space, including the likes of Western Union, Money Gram, World Remit; we believe our business is more than just remittances, how are we enabling a community of African trade globally from a financial services perspective?

Who We are looking for:

  • Someone who has extensive transactional accounting experience.
  • Someone with outstanding reporting and accounting abilities.
  • Someone who is passionate about driving financial inclusion across the African continent.
