An award-winning social enterprise founded in 2011 in West Africa, myAgro works with smallholder farmers to improve their harvests and incomes by investing their own funds into their farms. myAgro has pioneered a mobile savings model that allows farmers to invest their own funds in high-quality seed, fertilizer, and agricultural training to increase their harvest and income by 50-100%. Born from their founder’s insights whilst working at Kiva and One Acre Fund, myAgro has grown impressively - from serving only 500 farmers in Mali in 2012 to serving over 60,000 farmers across Mali, Senegal and Tanzania in the 2019 season. myAgro's North Star is to help 1 million farmers increase their incomes by $1.50 per day by 2025 and lift themselves out of poverty.Their award-winning team has received recognition from Skoll Foundation, Echoing Green, World Bank, Bill Gates and more. Senegal and Mali are myAgro's largest and fastest-growing countries of operation and the team are seeking a new leader to join them to drive their growth and the achievment of their North Star.

 

 

About the role

 

Logistics

  • Lead the development and embedding of robust strategic and operational / commercial plans, reporting, systems and processes. Relevant Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) will underpin this clarity and will be signed off and reviewed with the Exec team
  • Lead the delivery planning and execution process across the region to ensure on time, at cost and accurate delivery of the ag inputs to myAgro’s farmers
  • Draft, review, and negotiate complex contract agreements, including 3rd party warehousing/distribution agreements, air/ocean/truckload contracts, and others as required
  • Implement best practices in warehouse management and delivery planning
  • Communicate and endorse safety practices, monitor key safety performance indicators and visibly participate in promoting safety policies and initiatives
  • Meticulous planning and collaboration with all the teams engaged in pre-season delivery of inputs to farmers (Program, Product, IT, Country operations, Finance etc)

Overall

  • Lead the development of an annual supply chain budget in accordance with the overall strategy to achieve organizational goals
  • Work with the Exec team to strategise, design and build myAgro’s procurement and logistics capability to deliver to 1m farmers in West Africa by 2025
  • Work with other teams to ensure risks are sufficiently identified, assessed, mitigated, and reported
  • Evaluate best in class supply chain technology and infrastructure suitable to the scope and size of the business, as well as scale for future growth
  • Ensure compliance with myAgro’s environmental, health and safety policies with regard to procurement and logistics
  • Leads a team of procurement and delivery managers and associates across multiple countries to achieve objectives and continuously improve performance

Criteria

What You’ll Need To Perform This Job Successfully

  • More than 10 years of supply chain management experience in West Africa, preferably in the ag input sector
  • Rich knowledge across all parts of Supply Chain and Operations (e.g. customer service, logistics, demand and supply planning, importation, procurement)
  • Experience managing regional supply chains
  • Significant business process understanding with SAP working experience
  • Excellent relationship building and communication skills; ability to build internal and external relationships, excellent analytical reporting, presentation and meeting facilitation skills
  • Strong customer focus
  • Demonstrated skill in change management
  • Strong teamwork skills
  • Excellent analytical skills, applying conceptual models, recognizing patterns, and drawing and defending conclusions

However, their cash flow is “lumpy”: funds are at their highest level during harvest time, when cash needs are lowest, and their lowest level during planting time, when cash needs are at their highest and it is time to purchase seeds and fertilizer.  myAgro’s unique layaway payment system offers a solution to this wide-spread problem, allowing smallholder farmers to invest their own funds, little by little, into their greatest asset - their farms -  all without going into debt.

Through an innovative and tech-intensive approach, myAgro continues to reach more and more farmers and expand the organization's communication, program, data management capacities, and footprint. Today, myAgro works in works in Mali, Senegal and Tanzania, all while exploring expansion into new African markets. The organisation will continue to innovate with technology to improve its sales and product offerings, leveraging its current momentum to create a truly pan-African and ultimately global operation.
