GreenPath Food produces and sources premium, organic food in the Southern Highlands of Ethiopia. Everything we grow is hand sown, organically grown and harvested without machinery. Moreover, it is all sourced from our network of smallholder partner farms. We are proud to be Ethiopia's only organic fresh food producer, under the EU standard. Using regenerative, biodynamic farming practices, our Partner Farms cultivate “food forests,” which yield a portfolio of fruits, vegetables, and herbs. We are on a mission to create sustainable supply chains, sustainable farms and livelihoods for thousands of smallholders across East Africa.
 

GreenPath Food is one of The Perennial Foods Group's (PFG) two portfolio brands. Our fresh fruits and vegetables produced are exported to the UK, EU, and UAE where they are sold; our herbs are dried and sold in the UK via our herbal tea brand, Kib. The Perennial Foods Group (PFG) is a regenerative agriculture company that produces and sources a range of organic food through a network of small farms across Africa. By supplying small farms with inputs, financing, and technical support and then aggregating, purchasing, and processing their products, PFG creates sustainable supply chains for global customers and sustainable farms and livelihoods for thousands of growers. In doing so, we seek to protect and regenerate thousands of hectares of forest and farmland across the African continent. We currently operate our flagship production operation in southern Ethiopia and our commercial headquarters in London, but we are actively expanding across Europe and East Africa. With a growing team, farmer network, and global customer base, we're on the lookout for supremely capable talent with a passion for food and a deep commitment to improve its roots.


As the leader of our commercial function at GreenPath Food, you will be responsible for growing the sales and profitability of our fresh produce line. In this role, you will directly manage a small team, as well as a network of strategic sales partners in Germany, the UK, the Netherlands, the UAE and beyond. Your team will support you with delivering excellent day-to-day customer service, whilst you manage high-level relationships and ultimate commercial performance. You will play a central role in increasing our revenue ten-fold in the next three years, by strengthening our brand and generating sales through a blend of retailers, specialty wholesale customers, and distribution partnerships. This is a leadership position which reports to the Managing Director of PFG. The successful candidate will have access to an experienced Commercial Advisor to support with industry knowledge and strategic advisory.

 

Location:
This is a remote position expected to work-from-home for the first 12-24 months (at minimum), with regular travel to visit our team, customers, and suppliers. Preference will be given to candidates based in the UK or Netherlands - however, candidates elsewhere in Europe or East Africa are also welcome to apply.

 

 

Role Responsibilities:

 

Commercial Performance:

  • Own the P&L for the GreenPath Food brand by driving improvements, optimizing profitability, and internally reporting on progress
  • Collaborate with our production teams to determine annual production and sales plans, seasonal programs, and product development
  • Own ongoing demand and sales forecasting and allocation across all fresh produce channels
  • Lead on formulating, delivering and continuously improving GreenPath Food’s growth strategy for the next five years

Customer Service:

  • Represent the company and its values as the ultimate ambassador of GreenPath Food for all our international customers
  • Deliver unparalleled customer service across our sales network - ensuring customers experience thoughtful marketing and outreach, prompt and transparent communications, and exceptional professionalism

Strategic Partnerships:

  • Manage relationships, accounts, and delivery across GPF’s key service providers, including freight forwarders, import agents, trade associations, etc.
  • Lead programming and partnerships with our sales and distribution partners, growing our joint sales while ensuring commercial alignment and positive representation of our brand

Management & Leadership:

  • Coordinate daily activities and delivery of your small but growing team of sale and purchasing officers, distributed across UK, EU, and Africa
  • Coach and support your team, challenging them to better serve our customers while ensuring continued professional development
  • Uphold company values and actively contribute to the overall management and strategy of the company, as a key member of our leadership team

Criteria

  • You are excited by businesses that do things differently and eager to:

  • You have at least 5 years of experience in sales and marketing, commercial management, account management, customer service, client relations, business development or other related roles
  • You are bold and charismatic and you love approaching, engaging, and forging relationships with new people
  • You are detail oriented and self-starting, with both comfort and demonstrable experience leading structured planning, budgeting, programming, and/or strategy
  • You have international experience, whether in working across international supply chains, or living and working abroad
  • You are fluent in English with excellent written and verbal communication skills

Bonus Points:

  • You have experience working in perishable supply chains and/or have an existing network in the fresh produce sector
  • You have previously worked in and/or have exposure to both buying and selling roles
  • You have deep understanding of how supermarket retailers in Europe manage procurement
  • You have extensive management experience and/or have led your own venture, company, or team
  • You have French, German, Spanish, Dutch, Amharic, or Arabic language skills
