Genser Energy is an Independent Power Producer (IPP) based in the USA with operations in West Africa, which specialises in providing custom engineered turn-key distributed generation energy solutions for clients in the mining, manufacturing, and utilities industries. Their mission is to develop sustainable energy solutions despite the infrastructural constraints in Africa, whilst utilising the appropriate technologies in a safe, efficient & reliable manner, with a focus on the training and development of local expertise. Genser engages in engineering, procurement and construction (EPC), alongside the operation and maintenance (O&M) of its power generation plants and sells electricity and/or steam to its clients. Each project is financed and owned by a country-level subsidiary in Africa. Over the last eleven years, the team has completed and commissioned five distributed generation plants in Ghana and developed their own fuel supply chain for the smooth running and operation of the various thermal plants. Genser’s unique approach in delivering energy solutions, emphasises the team’s ability to expressly design, maintain and efficiently operate generation facilities tailored to their clients' needs and requirements. Genser is committed to providing sustainable and cost-effective energy solutions to numerous sectors across Africa; and is exploring projects in Gabon and Mauritania. 

 

Genser is seeking a motivated and entrepreneurial leader to join their Business Development team. As the new Business Development Manager, Power, you will focus on new business engagements, business development analysis and market strategies. In addition, you will facilitate customer and partner proposals, negotiating and managing the execution of power purchase agreements to promote the near, mid and long-term success of Genser’s power generation business. You will be based at Genser's Corporate Office in Accra, Ghana, and work closely with the VP of Project Development on a wide variety of tasks related to business and organisational development. 

 

Role Responsibilities:

  • Research, locate and meet with prospective clients to explain Genser’s energy solutions. Pursue leads and follow through to a successful contractual agreement
  • Screen prospective clients by analysing market strategies, deal requirements, growth and financial potential
  • Provide commercial, market, and strategic input into the pricing modelling process for clients
  • Close new business deals by understanding client requirements, developing and negotiating contracts, and acting as a liaison between the client and Genser EPC/O&M Teams
  • Collaborate with Business Development, EPC and OM Teams to ensure that client technical requirements are met during proposal, agreement signing and implementation stages
  • Manage executed contracts by spearheading the regulatory process, and ensuring all conditions precedent are reached
  • Oversee renewal of relevant compliance permits; coordinate with internal and external stakeholders
  • Follow the latest industry developments and stay up-to-date on corporate competitors. Seek out knowledge and information on changing market dynamics in the energy industry

Criteria

Qualifications & Experience:

  • BA in Business Management or Engineering or Finance; MBA a plus
  • Minimum of 6+ years’ experience in business development or related field, preferably energy or energy financing in the UK, South Africa or USA
  • Fluency in English compulsory; Proficiency in French is preferred

  • Possesses and demonstrates the ability to think ahead, plan and achieve key performance goals over a period of time
  • Demonstrates an ability to multi-task and manage several priorities; the ability to lead and be result oriented
  • Superb interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written

  • Competitive Monthly Gross Salary (based on experience) starting at approximately $75,000 USD annually (negotiable based on experience), plus incentives.

In addition to ownership of these distributed generation plants, Genser Energy Ghana has also developed their own fuel supply chain for the smooth running and operation of the various thermal plants. Genser Energy Ghana, currently owns two assets to facilitate the supply and storage of fuel for its generation plants, namely; the GP Tarkoradi Terminal and the GP Kojokrom (Eshiem) Facility. Genser’s current operations in Ghana reflect their firm commitment to increasing the generation capacity of the country.
