Genser Energy is an Independent Power Producer (IPP) based in the USA with operations in West Africa, which specialises in providing custom engineered turn-key distributed generation energy solutions for clients in the mining, manufacturing, and utilities industries. Their mission is to develop sustainable energy solutions despite the infrastructural constraints in Africa, whilst utilising the appropriate technologies in a safe, efficient & reliable manner, with a focus on the training and development of local expertise. Genser engages in engineering, procurement and construction (EPC), alongside the operation and maintenance (O&M) of its power generation plants and sells electricity and/or steam to its clients. Each project is financed and owned by a country-level subsidiary in Africa. Over the last eleven years, the team has completed and commissioned five distributed generation plants in Ghana and developed their own fuel supply chain for the smooth running and operation of the various thermal plants. Genser’s unique approach in delivering energy solutions, emphasises the team’s ability to expressly design, maintain and efficiently operate generation facilities tailored to their clients' needs and requirements. Genser is committed to providing sustainable and cost-effective energy solutions to numerous sectors across Africa; and is exploring projects in Gabon and Mauritania. Genser is seeking a diligent and professional Compliance Manager to join their Compliance team.

 

As the new Compliance Manager, you will be responsible primarily for overseeing the development of the compliance strategy for Genser Energy, by liaising with regulatory bodies and relevant third parties to ensure that the organisation applies the highest level of business process compliance. You will be based at Genser's Corporate Office in Accra, Ghana, and work closely with the Vice President for Legal & Compliance.

 

Role Responsibilities:

  • Ensure business activities are conducted in conformity with all applicable laws, regulations, internal policies and procedures
  • Keep abreast of regulatory developments and industry initiatives and advise Genser Energy accordingly
  • Act as an intermediary for local and foreign regulators and legal bodies, as well as maintaining relationships with relevant legal bodies and trade unions
  • Oversee adherence of local and foreign permits, ensuring that they remain current and appropriate for all business needs
  • Provide adequate reporting to Management regarding regulatory requirements
  • Prepare compliance documentation guided by the constitutionally mandated certifications for statutory, legal and regulatory purposes
  • Perform any other duties as assigned

Criteria

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Engineering Degree or LLB in Law and any related field to the industry
  • Masters in Engineering / Energy, or LLM in Law preferred
  • 8+ years’ experience in a related field, specifically 4 years in a legal supervisory position
  • Fluency in English compulsory; proficiency in French is preferred

Personal Traits & Competencies:

  • Knowledge in the implementation of ISO 9000, 14000 and 18,000 norms as well as statutory local and international regulatory policies
  • Knowledge of international standards: OSHA, ANSI, NFPA, IEC, IEEE-ASME
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to work in a self-directed fashion within a team-oriented structure, solid work ethic and professional maturity
  • Leadership qualities with the ability to perform in an entrepreneurial environment
  • Knowledge and understanding of employee benefits and compensation programs, policy development, budgeting and payroll execution, and familiarity with Ghana Labor Law
  • Ability to think ahead, plan and achieve key performance goals over a period of time
  • Competent in multi-tasking and managing several priorities; ability to lead and be result oriented
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written
  • Demonstrates ability to be assertive in dealing with regulatory bodies for consistent compliance

Genser Energy Ghana, currently owns two assets to facilitate the supply and storage of fuel for its generation plants, namely; the GP Tarkoradi Terminal and the GP Kojokrom (Eshiem) Facility.
