The Opportunity

The E4D team is expanding and are looking to enhance our team’s expertise in areas related to the ‘youth’ side of the triangle of forces.  We are looking for a senior consultant with broad technical expertise across monitoring, evaluation, economic analysis, and an understanding of financing mechanisms, with experience working on initiatives that seek to improve market functioning; enable innovation and technological progress; and, promote investment.  Specifically, we are looking for a Senior Consultant that has expertise in private-sector led skills development initiatives, job creation interventions, and enterprise development programmes. The role would preferably be based in Europe or Africa, but we are open to exploring excellent candidates in other time zones.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design, implementation and management of consultancy projects on behalf of clients
  • Generate sound advice and provide quality assistance to clients
  • Use skills and experience to break down difficult problems into tractable component parts 
  • Use skills and experience to identify solutions to each component of the problem
  • Undertake rigorous analysis of data and reports using both conceptual problem-solving and qualitative and quantitative approaches, as well as provide guidance and instructions to junior staff to effectively complete tasks
  • Independently identify and overcome data and conceptual problems that emerge during the analysis
  • Lead and / or contribute towards proposal development 
  • Manage client interactions, including presenting and discussing project findings and recommendations 
  • Build company intellectual property 
  • Prepare considered and logically composed documents using both Microsoft Suite and Google Suite applications 
  • Nurture, train and mentor junior consultants for technical development as well as with strong cross-cutting consulting and communication skills 
  • Contribute towards practice-wide portfolio efforts, for instance in people management, operational management, technical excellence and business development 
  • Contribute towards industry developments and communities of practice


Background Information:
The E4D practice currently consists of 20 team members, located in Botswana, Canada, South Africa, Kenya, and the UK. We work across Sub-Saharan Africa and other emerging economies. We break down the allure of one-size-fits-all strategies by demonstrating the value that context-appropriate African-led solutions can unlock. We apply this approach across everything we do - from strategy development, to programme design and implementation, to research and evaluation. Our work cuts across sectors, but our core area of expertise is related to unlocking value in Africa by identifying market-based solutions to enable more inclusive economic growth, including job creation and enterprise development, and financial inclusion. Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL):

Genesis’s E4D team is a trusted provider of monitoring, evaluation and learning (MEL) services we combine our deeply rooted understanding of the African context with our extensive experience in qualitative and quantitative monitoring and evaluation (M&E) methods to assess progress, measure value creation, and facilitate internal and external learning.

We provide three service lines: 

  • Programme evaluation and impact evaluation
  • Monitoring and results management (MRM) systems design
  • Integrated MEL partnerships

 Education, Knowledge, Skills, Experience & Personal Competencies

  • Strong academic background – Minimum of a Postgraduate degree in an analytical field of study. 
  • Experience in research, monitoring and evaluation a requirement 4 or more years of relevant experience and a passion for consulting 
  • Experience in one or more of the sectoral areas (agriculture, financial inclusion, youth livelihoods, health, private sector development) an advantage 
  • Strong research, analytical and lateral thought processes 
  • Excellent English communication and writing skills – ability to communicate at all levels
  • Proactive self-starter who is able to be assertive 
  • Ability to work as part of a multi-cultural team as well as independently
