Description

Food for Education is a social enterprise in Kenya that uses technology, smart operations and logistics to deliver low cost, nutritious meals, targeting Africa’s 250 million urban and peri-urban low income, public school students. They provide subsidised nutritious meals to primary school children to improve nutrition education outcomes. By sourcing food from local small holder farmers, and utilising a model which prioritises efficient supply chain management and production, Food for Education lowers the cost of school meals. Parents contribute to these affordable and nutritous meals through a mobile money system linked to NFC wristbands, which their children wear and ‘Tap2Eat’ in under 5 seconds to access their lunch.  To date, Food for Education have served over 5,000,000 meals and are scaling to serve 72,000,000 meals in the next two years. Their goal is to reach 1,000,000 public school students by 2025.

 

Food for Education are looking for a Head of Growth Operations who will be responsible for designing, leading and implementing their growth strategy. As the new Head of Growth Operations, you will report directly to the Founder and CEO. The role will be based at Food for Education’s headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya, with travel required within Kenya and East Africa to manage new sites expected when needed.

 

 

Responsibilities and Duties

 

  • Work with the CEO to define growth objectives and targets
  • Coordinate and execute growth initiatives which include opening of new kitchen sites and on-boarding schools
  • Analyse and interpret data (from various sources, including Tap2Eat analytics) to provide insight-driven recommendations on areas for improvement, and to address root cause issues. Apply your insights and experience in this space to build out our data and analytics strategy as we scale our work
  • Optimise our value chain, across the Food for Education operations and school partners. Ensure all inputs are provided as required to ensure we optimise our value chain
  • Contribute to a great delivery culture by helping us continuously improve our working practices and processes
  • Provide updates to the Food for Education Board as required  
  • Ensure all data & business processes are in place to allow seamless on-boarding of schools and regions.    
  • Optimise the earned revenue funnel (parents contributions)
  • Creating data and analytics infrastructure to optimise operations
  • Aligning and driving the organisation’s key performance indicators
  • Extracting customer insights to improve operations and delivery
  • Any other duties as assigned
     

Criteria

Qualifications and Expertise

  • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) preferred
  • 3-5 years’ experience as a Growth Manager or Operations Lead in a fast growing environment
  • Proven track record of working in a start-up/ scale-up environment
  • Experience working with analytics and data visualisation tools (e.g. Firebase / Google Analytics) and using this information to make value-based decisions
  • Proven experience & understanding of IT processes
  • Experience of conducting user testing / focus groups  and/or gathering feedback to ensure we stay close to our user base
